Finding Peace After Loss

At AHC, we recently welcomed M., a client from the United States, introduced by his close friend Casey, who had experienced Reiki with us the year before.

M. came to his first Reiki session holding the deep, raw pain of losing his mother suddenly. As he shared, both he and his mother were only children. A small family — and now, only one remains. His mother wasn’t just a parent, but also his closest friend.

“I know I’m very emotional… but I just can’t hold it in right now.”

These were his first words, barely seated, eyes welling up. In that moment, the room fell into stillness — not silence, but presence.

What unfolded in the session wasn’t just sadness. It was a deep sense of something incomplete. A moment missed. A final hug that never happened. A goodbye left unsaid.

Reiki as a Gentle Container for Grief

As practitioners, we don’t always “do” the healing. Sometimes, the true work is to simply hold space — a space that is quiet, grounded, and safe enough for what needs to happen… to happen.

That was the case here.

There was no attempt to erase the grief. Instead, the session became a bridge — a gentle in-between where pain could soften and the soul could speak.

What Happened in the Reiki Healing Session

As the energy began to move, it wasn’t the physical tension or blocked chakras that called attention. It was a heaviness lodged deeper, not due to denial of loss, but the weight of guilt.

M. had not been there in his mother’s final moments. He never got to hold her hand, whisper goodbye, or say he was sorry. That absence had become a quiet torment, lingering beneath every breath.

But then, something shifted.

After the session, with tears rolling down his cheeks, M. quietly shared:

“I saw my mom. She came to me. We spoke — something I haven’t been able to do since April 18th, the day she passed. I told her how guilty I felt for not being there. And she said: ‘I don’t blame you. Everything happened the way it was meant to. You don’t have to carry this guilt anymore.’”

The Healing That Cannot Be Measured

Some losses never fully heal. They remain — like silent spaces in the heart.

But some connections are never broken.

The bond between a mother and child doesn’t end with life — it transforms into something more subtle, more spiritual, yet just as real.

And sometimes, a Reiki session isn’t just about releasing pain. It’s about allowing a reunion — quiet, sacred, and filled with grace — to happen… one more time.
